Asus Eee PC T91

The Asus Eee PC T91 is the first convertible touchscreen netbook from Asus. In other words, you can fold the screen down over the keyboard and use the netbook as a tablet. At launch, it ships with Windows XP Home Edition, not Windows 7 or Windows XP Tablet Edition, which are optimized for use with touchscreen displays. Instead, Asus has created a suite of touchfriendly applications and optimizations to make the netbook easier to navigate with a finger or the included stylus.

• Advantages:

What really makes the Eee PC T91 so compelling is the new Touch Gate interface that ASUS developed exclusively for the Eee PC Touch series of netbooks. Sure, it might just be an attractive, touchfriendly skin over Windows XP, but it’s also one of the most consumerfriendly touchscreen interfaces.

• Disadvantages:

Like most 8.9inch netbooks, sacrifices have to be made, most notably to the size of the keyboard. Like the Eee PC 901, the tiny keys are no bigger than Chiclets, and the cramped layout takes practice to build up a decent typing speed. ASUS’ ageold keyboard slipup is also present; the right Shift key is awkwardly placed above the right arrow key. However, the left Shift key is closer to full size.

• Conclusion:

Asus' experiment with a touchenabled Eee PC, although commendable, doesn't really fly too well practically. Granted the Eee PC T91's tiny and easy to carry around, but its touch interface is not quite perfect. For Rs. 25,990, the Asus Eee PC T91's overpriced in terms of features when compared to other Eee PCs on offer.
